I haven't been hiking or anything of the like in a *really* long time. Does anyone have any suggestions on some scenic places to go in the next couple of weeks? I'm thinking of taking a friend or two along, and it'd be a short hike (a couple of hours at most).

Sun, October 17, 2004 - 11:13 PMCheck out info on the Butterfly Trail...
it ends @ Mt. Bigelow. A nice loop type hike, with the last part being a downhill leg... -

Mon, October 18, 2004 - 4:42 PMAre you looking for a short, intermediate, or advanced hike? -

Re: Trail suggestions?
Mon, October 18, 2004 - 5:54 PMShort in this case. The purpose is more to show some friends a nice time, rather than go for any sort of a workout.

Re: Trail suggestions?
Mon, October 18, 2004 - 5:27 PMI've always liked Pima Canyon for a nice, short hike. I usually walk it about 3 miles in to this big, flat rock that's nice for resting. It's not too crowded, close to town, real flat, and you get some nice desert and riparian areas. Also, if you get there early enough, the sun is behind the hills for roughly the whole hike. -

Re: Trail suggestions?
Tue, October 19, 2004 - 1:25 PMthere are nice hikes throughout Sabino Canyon/Bear Canyon that can be augmented with the tram, either at the beginning or ending(my choice!), of your hike...
I concur with the suggestion of Pima Canyon... short, yet interesting & scenic. Agua Caliente Canyon is another similarly flat short hike. I also did a lot of hiking off Redington Pass Rd., especially the 'nude' section of the canyon upstream from Tanque Verde falls. -

Tue, October 19, 2004 - 7:01 PMI've never understood the nude hiking thing. I mean, you get a little too close to a cholla, or even a palo verde and that's the end of the good times. I always try to cover as many parts of my body as possible on hikes, just to avoid scratches and injuries, but maybe I'm overly cautious. -

Re: Trail suggestions?
Tue, October 19, 2004 - 9:07 PMWell, you don't really hike nude... you go to your 'spot', ie: sandy beach, pool, waterfall, boulder cove, etc., then strip, skinny dip and what have you...
Ya, it's free 'n' breezy to bounce & jiggle your way back to the trailhead, but bushwhackin' isn't recommended! hehe!
When I say 'howdy to a cactus' it's usually from a safe distance.
Hiking in the desert, in general, is kindof a zen awareness deal. You don't just go running wild through the brush...
